Prof Alison Holmes appointed as inaugural Director of the Fleming Initiative
Professor Alison Holmes has been appointed as the inaugural Director of the Fleming Initiative, a global initiative aimed at combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Holmes, a renowned expert in infectious diseases, is currently the David Price Evans Chair of Global Health and Infectious Diseases at the University of Liverpool and a Professor at Imperial College London. Her research focuses on infectious diseases and antibiotic use, particularly in the prevention of infections and the optimization of antimicrobial therapies. Holmes has held significant roles within the NHS and on international boards, contributing her expertise to several WHO advisory groups and panels. She has served on national and international scientific committees and has been recognized with two Senior Investigator awards from NIHR. The Fleming Initiative, established by Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, brings together research scientists, policymakers, clinicians, behavioral experts, public, and commercial partners to provide equitable solutions to AMR at the global scale.
